A section that I'm hoping will bring more good use to the visitors and bring us closer to the goal of one million pennies. The Penny Post! The Time of Year for Giving

Happy Holidays everyone! Christmas is just a few days away and I thought I would post my wish list for Santa. After all, this is the time of year for giving. 1.) Pennies. 2.) Pennies. 3.) Pennies. 4.) Pennies. 5.) If I can't have any of the above, then I want Pennies. I'll bet you can't find a present that costs less than a penny. Since it's better to give than receive, I have gotten all the visitors of this site a small gift. I placed a progress bar along with the counter to give a sense of how far we have come. More importantly, it shows how far we have to go. We have reached just about 10% of the goal and have over 90% to go. Still a VERY long way so let's send those pennies in. If you can picture how insignificant a penny is, then you should send one (or more) in. Take a look at the How To Send page and find the best option for you. A lot of people have been asking me for pictures of all the pennies we have collected so far. This wasn't so easy, because I had the pennies stored in different places. So I took a day and went to gather them all up for a photograph. I have posted the picture on the main page. I hope to get a better picture soon. Here is the current pile of pennies we have so far. This is all 91,847 pennies.

New Paypal Integration

I have been working very hard on learning some PHP to put together a script that automates the penny counter a bit. I feel it's important so the site works more in real time. Now, when you send a penny through paypal, you can see it show up immediately on the penny counter. When I got it working, and saw it go up, I realized it was kind of fun to do. So I transferred about 25 pennies from my bank account. Give it a try yourself and watch it live!

Yesterday, we recieved some special pennies from John at Lovethebluesman.com. This site was listed as one of the top contributors. To thank us, he sent 8 steel 1943 pennies.

About the 1943 Penny: During World War II, there were major shortages of Copper. Copper was the main ingredient for Shell Casings, Bullets, Bombs, and Guns. The US Government was forced to stop the use of copper which they'd normally used for the penny. The 1943 Cent is made of 100% Steel, and is coated with a thin layer of zinc. It is the ONLY US Penny that is magnetic.

So as you can imagine, this mailbag was a complete shock. Brandon was ecstatic. These pennies are a rare commodity. We appreciate this wonderful gesture. Thank you, John!!

Attention: Total Fark Users

Tonight, Brandon noticed that he is getting a lot of visitors from Total Fark. Only users with a paid subscription can view this site. Shockingly, we do not know anyone that has a subscription to Total Fark.

It's been a while

My husband and I have been very busy lately. As a result, the poor lil' penny site has been suffering. So, Brandon is letting me take over the Penny Blog. Okay, on to the Penny update...

Right now, we are waiting for a check from Google ads for the amount of $111.20. Once we receive it, Brandon will be heading to the bank to cash it in for pennies. Currently, we have 9 boxes of pennies worth $25 each. Oh yea, and we also have a 5-gallon water bottle about half way full of pennies. Pretty good!!

A good friend of ours sent us a cool penny commercial being aired. It's a Virgin Mobile ad about pennies being neglected. See, we're not the only ones that believe poor pennies are being overlooked.

Hopefully you will see more updates, so check back soon. In the meantime, enjoy the video!! Oooh... and very important, Don't forget to send a penny. :)

Paypal Pennies coming soon

So yesterday, I went to my bank because I had finally moved all the paypal pennies out of paypal. I walked in and told the girl I needed to withdrawl $114.04, but I would like that in pennies. Her head flew way back and said, "what do you need that many pennies for?" I began to tell her, "well, I have a really strange website called sendmepennies.com". She interupted me saying, "what, to get rich?". "Not really" i said, "it's so I can do something really strange with one million pennies. People send me pennies through the mail, paypal, and by clicking ads on the site. People paypal a penny, so that's a digital transaction. I need to make sure that transaction turns into an actual penny, so I can reach One Million." She said, "I think we can do that". So the Supervisor and her went to the back of the bank where they were for about 5 minutes. The supervisor came over and said, "Do you need the penny rolls, or the actual pennies?". "Actual pennies" i said. "Over One Hundred dollars of them?", she replied. I said "YUP!".

So she went in back and came out with about 10 rolls of pennies and said she didnt have as many as I needed, but could offer these. I said, you might as well order them and I will pick them up another day. So the order was placed and I will pick them up sometime around next Wednesday.

It's always fun doing this. This is the second time i've ordered pennies from the bank. Anyone who hears this is astounded that I would want to buy that many pennies. This particular teller thought I was crazy and maybe she's right.

I made the Radio!!!

So I was looking through my web stats and noticed I was receiving hits from a site called lifeonline.com. This site is home of the radio show for Bob Parsons, CEO & Founder of GoDaddy.com, where my domain is registered. Bob Parsons has a segment where he brings up strange websites and mine was one of them on April 12th 2006. You can listen to the snippet for the promotion HERE. He doesn't seem to be too fond of the idea, but it was interesting enough for him to talk about it on the air. His show is broadcasted on XM, Sirius, AM radio in Portland, OR on KBNP, and on the Internet at lifeonline.com. Make sure you download this broadcast and be one of the few to hear my first major publicity. This is only the beginning folks. I plan on going all the way to Good Morning America! P.S. Just Bought Some Pennies

Last week, I went to the bank to cash a check from google adsense for $105.66 from the sponsored links on this site. When the teller asked me how I would like it, I said 'pennies please'. He looked at me with an "are you serious" sort of grin. He said he would have to see if they had that many pennies. So he went to his supervisor, which came over to investigate, and told me they don't have that many pennies, but I could order them and they would arrive in a few days. So I placed the order and held on to the check. Well, yesterday I went in and my pennies had arrived. So I cashed the check and walked out the door with something around 60 pounds of pennies in my hands. 4 boxes of fresh-from-the-mint pennies! It was a difficult walk to my car with that many pennies but I had a huge smile on my face as I walked by people who would look at me and see what I was carrying. This should go to show, that every penny earned from this site gets converted to pennies. No matter what format they are sent in. Thanks for visiting the sponsors!
